The internship program aims to provide students in the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and Bachelor of Commerce (Services Marketing – Tourism & Hospitality) (BCom (Serv)) with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a range of firms and industries. Internships are a requirement of the BCom (SERV) program. Many students already work part-time in tourism and service organisations, but internship placements are a unique chance to work with industry leaders at a more managerial level with additional responsibilities.
A typical internship placement involves a student working for an organisation on a voluntary basis, one to two days per week for a six month period. Internships are a fantastic opportunity to:
- Obtain work experience in challenging roles within the tourism and hospitality industry
- Apply the knowledge you have gained throughout your degree to real life situations
- Undertake managerial or project based tasks in a variety of industries
- Develop managerial skills and expertise
We encourage you to apply for as many internships as you are interested in. Each position has clear selection criteria, and while existing work experience and good grades are a bonus, they are definitely not essential! It is also great practice to improve your application and interview skills. If you are unsure about how to prepare a successful application, UNSW Careers and Employment has got plenty of resources to help you.
