Human Resource Management (HRM)

The success of any organisation is highly dependent on its workforce. Human Resource Management (HRM) is the strategic approach to managing an organisation’s employees. The discipline focuses on the management of people at work and on the relationships between employees and their managers. HRM is based on the premise that people are an organisation’s most valued asset, and effective and responsible HR practices provide a foundation for any organisation’s strategic success.

The Human Resource Management major deals with issues such as employee engagement, performance management, employment relations, learning and development, organisational change, health and safety, international HRM and organisational behaviour. Both conceptual knowledge and workplace practices are emphasised throughout the courses.

International Business

Globalisation has changed the way we do business. To succeed in today’s global and highly competitive markets, companies are always looking for professionals with an acute knowledge of the international business environment and its operations.

International Business deals with development, strategy and management of multinational organisations. It investigates how firms organise and conduct operations globally, and how the competitive international environment shapes the economic, political and cultural context for business.

Management

A key ingredient of a successful organisation is good management. The more you know about the organisation and how people behave, the better you will be in managing and directing its resources to achieve the organisation’s strategic goals.

Management examines the processes, structures, capabilities and work functions involved in managing people and organisations effectively. The main components of Management are planning, leading and directing, as well as building and developing relationships between people and organisations for effective performance.

Studying Management allows students to develop skills to manage a wide array of different functions required to achieve business objectives successfully. The goal is to equip future managers to effectively apply knowledge and skill to the complex problems facing organisations in today’s dynamic global business environment.
