Resources for research

The Australian School of Business is committed to providing our staff with a well resourced environment in which they undertake their research. We offer excellent research facilities and financial support.

Internal grants

The internal grant scheme is designed to provide seed funding to support research that will ultimately be the subject of applications for funding from external schemes (eg. the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery and Linkage programs). The grants are partly a mentoring mechanism to introduce junior members of staff, in particular early career researchers, to the procedures needed to successfully compete for larger external funding. Funding per grant up to $25,000.

Support for applying for external grants

In addition to support available from UNSW Research Strategy Office and Grant Management Office, ASB provides additional support for staff applying for external funding.  Professor Alan Johnson provides seminars to assist researchers at ASB interested in applying for ARC Grants. The ARC Application Incentive Scheme provides up to $2,000 to assist with the expenses associated with submitting an ARC or equivalent application. The grant readers program assists applicants in seeking feedback on their draft application prior to submission.

Support for external grant holders

ASB provides direct support to members of staff who are successful in obtaining an ARC Grant (or competitive grant of equivalent standing) of at least three years duration. Support of up to $30,000 may be provided to fund the equivalent of one full time session of teaching relief per grant, subject to the approval of the Head of School.

Conference travel funding

ASB provides funding to academic staff who wish to present a paper overseas at an leading international conference. Funding of up to $2,000 is available to eligible staff members every year (conditions apply). ASB Disciplinary Schools provide additional funding to their staff members for overseas and domestic conference travel.

Databases

ASB currently subscribes to a variety of financial datasets commonly used by many of the world's top researchers. These subscriptions are designed to provide the necessary infrastructure for ASB researchers to be able to produce world class research outputs in the financial disciplines.

Awards for research excellence

ASB awards $2,000 to up to five junior members of staff who have made an outstanding achievement in research every year. Outstanding achievements may include an outstanding journal publication for a person of their rank in the discipline, a large number of quality publications, and/or recognition of research excellence from some outside body.

Experimental Research Laboratory

The ASB Experimental Research Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility for conducting controlled experiments and simulations in business and economics.

Seminar series

ASB conducts a series of research seminars throughout the year. The seminar series provides an excellent opportunity to network with scholars from Australia and overseas who are acknowledged as leaders in the field of business undertaking cutting edge research.

International visitors

International visitors are a part of how we stay at the leading edge of research. Over the last two years, ASB hosted almost 300 international visitors.
