Thousands of students have arrived at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) campus this week for the start of semester, seeking ways to connect with their new classmates and successfully navigate university life. To kick-off O-Week the Australian School of Business (ASB) has launched its first student-centred mobile application.
The unique function of the new iPhone app, ‘Your ASB’, is its integrated mobile student desk. Students are able to interact with the student desk by using their student ID and password to access secured ASB student documents anywhere, anytime.
Alec Cameron, Dean of the Australian School of Business, said that the new mobile app is an exciting new tool for ASB students. “The success of smartphones, tablets and the advent of the app store has changed the way people communicate, especially for those in the under 25 age group. Research undertaken by ASB showed that the majority of our students use social media daily and many of those students are accessing social media via a smartphone or tablet. ASB decided to enter this space and ‘go mobile’ in order to effectively engage our students.”
‘Your ASB’ pulls together information from ASB and UNSW websites, including student clubs and societies, into one user-friendly mobile app. Students are connected and kept ‘in the know’ by accessing the latest news, upcoming events, business intelligence from Knowledge@Australian School of Business, and affiliated social media pages, all from their mobile phone.
Benjamin Eisikovich, an ASB Bachelor of Commerce student, said the app brings together all the important information that he needs to know as a first year commerce student. “Navigation through the app is simple and it will save time by eliminating the hassle of searching for information on the web. The best thing about it is the ability to find up to date information that is relevant to me. No matter where I am the information will be conveniently in the palm of my hand. It will ensure that I don’t miss important ASB and UNSW events.”
The ‘Your ASB’ app is currently available to download on iPhone and Android. To launch ‘Your ASB’, ASB is running a competition through social media to encourage students to download the app and go into a draw to win an iPad 2.
