Professor Peter Shergold, The Maquarie Group Foundation Professor, Centre For Social Impact (CSI), has been selected as one of Sydney’s 100 most influential people according to The (Sydney) Magazine.
The recently released annual list recognises those who have made a significant contribution to their field and an impact on the city.
Dubbed ‘The Envoy’ by the magazine, Professor Shergold was selected for his role in enhancing the work of the ‘third sector’, fostering social responsibility within the corporate world, and for his ‘quest to overhaul the way government, business and the not-for-profit sector work together’.
CSI is a partnership between the Australian School of Business and three other universities and aims to bring together research, teaching and cross-sector partnerships to create positive social impact.
The article noted that Professor Shergold is widely acknowledged to have given CSI a high public profile in 2009, winning support at the highest levels of government and business.
The top 100 list was decided by a team of 37 panellists and included 17 categories, covering fields such as science and technology, visual arts, business, music and law.
Panellist Richard Aedy said Professor Shergold has “a calm certainty about him… Under his leadership the Centre is starting to have a real impact”.
