Quality assurance

The Australian School of Business is committed to ensuring students experience excellent learning outcomes and enhanced educational opportunities. Strategies for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning are developed and consolidated through the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Plan.

There are a number of processes throughout the Australian School of Business which aim to monitor and enhance our capacity to maintain the highest standards of teaching quality.

Curriculum review and improvement

Programs

Each school is responsible for the overall quality of the programs and courses in their discipline. Following UNSW and Faculty policies and procedures on curriculum review, schools undertake regular program reviews via School Curriculum Review Committees or School Teaching and Learning Quality Groups. Staff, students, alumni, industry and other stakeholders have input into curriculum change.

Recommendations are forwarded through the Australian School of Business Education and Standing Committees, or, if major changes occur, through the UNSW Academic Board. Once change has been approved, there is a process in place for Australian School of Business and university administrative departments to be involved in the implementation and communication of the change.

Courses

Individual courses are constantly evaluated and improved through the Course Teaching and Course and Teaching Evaluation and Improvement Process (CATEI). This process is designed to ensure that courses and teaching is evaluated for continued improvement. To ensure course and program coherency, student achievements of program learning goals are measured via course-embedded assessments. The results of the assessments are analysed and used to inform program review.

Teaching review and improvement

In accordance with UNSW's policy on evaluation of teaching, academics are responsible for monitoring and working to improve their own teaching, CATEI assists in this process. Find out more about CATEI.

Heads of School meet with academic staff each year, through the Career Development Scheme to discuss priorities and goals, including those which are related to teaching. The UNSW Academic Promotions policy supports continual review and improvement of teaching through the requirement of a teaching portfolio.
