Entry requirements

 

Admission to Postgraduate coursework programs at the Australian School of Business is determined by your prior academic qualifications and/or your professional work experience.

 

Postgraduate coursework places are competitive and admission is subject to the relevant institution of which previous study was undertaken and availability of places in the program.

 

English language

All applicants whose first language is not English must be able to provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for entry into UNSW programs. Find out more in the UNSW English language requirement policy.

 

 Postgraduate coursework programs - entry requirements

Actuarial Studies8411

To qualify for this program, students require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) with a substantial component of mathematics, statistics, econometrics or actuarial studies, and a credit average overall.

 

Applicants are expected to have a mathematical background equivalent to a full year of calculus and linear algebra at first-year university undergraduate level at an above credit grade, as determined by the Australian School of Business. Additional entry requirements

To qualify for this program, students require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) with a substantial component of mathematics, statistics, econometrics or actuarial studies, and a credit average overall.

There are two pathways into the MBA Program:
 
  • A good undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification), minimum GMAT score of 550 and a minimum of 2 years professional or managerial work experience.
  • At least 6 years professional work experience and a minimum GMAT score of 550.

There are two pathways into the MBA (Executive) program:
 
  • A good undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) and a minimum of 2 years professional or managerial work experience
  • At least 6 years professional work experience

Applied Taxation9260

A recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in taxation, law or commerce with a credit average, as determined by the Australian School of Business plus the completion of the GradDipCA from ICAA.

 

In certain cases, candidates for the Master of Applied Taxation may be regarded as lacking commerce or law qualifications at the required level, standard or content. In such cases, candidates are required to complete the Postgraduate Qualifying Program (program code: 6894). The requirement of the Postgraduate Qualifying Program may be imposed even in cases where the candidate holds the GradDipCA.

Business and Technology8616
  • An Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent, minimum of four years of management or relevant professional experience for Masters level entry (program code: 8616)
  • Applicants without a prior degree, who have 4 years relevant experience, may enter at the Graduate Certificate level (program code: 7333), commencing with the compulsory course GBAT9100 Introduction to Management. A credit average (65%) over the first four courses is required to progress to Masters level.

Economics8412
Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) majoring in Economics with a credit average in the Economics major and a credit average overall, as determined by the Australian School of Business. The Economics major must include a minimum of second-year microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and an additional economics focus. Applicants must also have demonstrated competence in mathematical and statistical methods. Additional entry requirements

Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) majoring in Finance with a credit average in the Finance major and a credit average overall, as determined by the Australian School of Business. Additionally, the applicant must have demonstrated competence in mathematics and statistical methods. Additional entry requirements

Financial Analysis8413
Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) majoring in Finance or Accounting with a credit average overall, as determined by the Australian School of Business. Additional entry requirements
Financial Economics 8427

 

  1. Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or Engineering with a distinction average overall, as determined by the Australian School of Business, plus
  2. Minimum Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score of 600 or equivalent
  3. Applicants whose first language is not English must be able that their command of the English language is adequate as referred to in UNSW English language requirements policy
Financial Planning 9273

 

Category A:  

  • Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in Commerce or Finance with a credit average overall, as determined by the Australian School of Business.


Category B: 

  • A recognised non-business related undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) with a credit average overall as determined by the Australian School of Business, plus
  • A minimum of two years full time relevant work experience.
Graduate Certificate in Change Management7315
There are two pathways into the GCCM Program:
 
  • A good undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) and a minimum of 2 years change-related or managerial work experience
  • At least 6 years change-related or managerial work experience

Additional entry requirements

Graduate Certificate in Commerce7355

Professionals without an undergraduate degree require a minimum of seven years relevant work experience.  Entry is determined on review of the following supporting documentation upon application.


1. Submission of a detailed resume, outlining competencies, business acumen and achievements


2. Submission of a statement responding to the following questions:

  • Why do you want to study business at the Australian School of Business? (500 words)
  • What are your most significant professional achievements and why do you view them as such? (500 words)
Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning7273

 

Category A

  • A recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification), as determined by the Australian School of Business, plus
  • A minimum of two years full-time relevant work experience.

 

Category B*

  • Applicants without an undergraduate degree require a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience, as determined by the Australian School of Business, plus
  • Demonstrated completion of professional courses or studies.

 

*Note: Meeting this minimum criteria does not guarantee admission. An application is to include the following as supporting documentation:


1. Detailed resume (outlining relevant competencies and achievements); and
2. Evidence of other academic and professional qualifications

Graduate Certificate in Marketing7414

To be considered for the Graduate Certificate in Marketing applicants should have more than five years professional marketing and business experience; however, meeting this minimum criterion does not guarantee admission. An application is to include as supporting documentation:

 

1. Detailed resume (outlining competencies, business acumen and achievements).
2. Evidence of other academic and professional qualifications.

 

All applications will be reviewed by an Australian School of Business admissions committee and applicants may be required to undergo an assessment of prior knowledge. 

Graduate Certificate in Social Impact7357
Category A – Applicants with limited professional experience
Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) as determined by the Australian School of Business.

Category B – Applicants without a Bachelor degree
Special consideration may be given where an applicant has extensive (5 years) relevant full-time work experience as determined by the Australian School of Business, in any of the sectors: government, corporate or the third (not-for-profit) sector. Applicants in this category should have formal training or prior learning deemed relevant to the program by the Australian School of Business.
Graduate Diploma in Advanced Taxation 5540

Applicants require a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in taxation, law or commerce, as determined by the Australian School of Business.

 

For those applicants who did not complete a university level course of study in taxation as part of their undergraduate degree, they may be required to complete a qualifying course prior to admission to postgraduate studies (ATAX0100).
