Make a difference, support students in adversity
Rob’s* story is an extraordinary one. Taken away from his home and his parents by authorities at an early age, he had a much tougher upbringing than most. As a teenager he returned to the family home. However Rob’s parents were alcoholics and his mother also suffered from a mental illness. Despite these challenges he was determined to press on with his studies and became Dux of his school and ultimately achieved an ATAR of 97.
“Regardless of being born into a deprived life, I have never thought there was something I couldn’t do. Where many in my situation would have given up, I have succeeded and my drive to perform continues to burn. University is my golden opportunity to attain a life which contrasts to that of my parents.” said Rob.
The Alumni Scholarship Fund provides support to students from low socio-economic backgrounds, or rural areas, Indigenous Australians, and students with disabilities. The university assesses all scholarship applications to ensure that it is students in most need that receive a scholarship.
Every dollar you give goes directly to students in the form of a scholarship - $5,000 per year for their entire degree. This money helps provide text books and covers living and accommodation costs. Without this support many students are unable to afford to go to university or have to work long hours which can affect their studies.
While FEE-HELP allows students to defer their fees, they still need to pay for books, computers, living expenses, travel and, if living away from home, accommodation too.
Rob is doing well in his studies at the Australian School of Business. Thanks to the scholarship he is able to concentrate on his degree and we hope that, with his drive and determination, he will go onto achieve great things.
