2011 Symposium on accounting, reporting and assurance for a sustainable future: Risks and opportunities
Date: 31 October and 1 November, 2011
Venue: Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
The Brundtland report (1987) also referred to as "Our Common Future" alerted the world to the urgency of making progress toward economic development that could be sustained whilst minimising the depletion of natural resources and harm to the environment.
This two-day symposium will explore issues related to climate change and sustainability and the implications to businesses and the current trends in research. Established and proposed policy frameworks are surveyed and evaluated to highlight the significance of transparency and accountability in reporting environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
An overview and assessment of the current practices in assurance for sustainability reports and greenhouse gas disclosures will also be covered. The current state and trends of carbon markets in regulated and voluntary setting will be discussed. Carbon foot printing based life cycle assessment methodology will also be covered. Case studies of successful reporting strategies will also be discussed.
